About the product
Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) is a dimer of cyclopentadiene. It is produced by first heating cyclopentadiene to copolymerize it into dicyclopentadiene. Dicyclopentadiene is then separated from other lighter fractions (boiling point < 45℃) through distillation, and other desired dienes, mono-alkenes, and saturated hydrocarbons are extracted using solvent extraction. High-purity dicyclopentadiene is a colorless crystalline substance at room temperature, while the presence of impurities turns it into a pale yellow, oily liquid with an irritating camphor scent. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers.
Main applications
DCPD has significant applications, ranging from basic organic chemical raw materials to new types of metal polymer materials. It can be used as a raw material for the production of unsaturated resins, metallocenes, adamantane, pentanedial, and dicyclopentadiene chlorides (pesticides). It is widely applied in various fields including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, fragrances, leather, and synthetic rubber. Additionally, it can be used as a high-energy fuel.
